Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is ideal for those in their first management role within a logistics environment, or those who have management responsibilities but no formal training. It will also support first-line managers who need to lead people through day to day organisational challenges such as performance improvement and managing costs and resources.

What are the benefits?
Logistics is literally a moving industry that has seen a number of changes in working practices over the last 20 years, particularly with the introduction of technology and automation of a number of activities. Therefore, it is important that people employed within this sector keep up-to-date and have the necessary qualifications and skills to maintain their position in the market place.

For learners, this qualification will help them acquire and develop competence in the management of logistics operations when overseeing the movement, safe handling and storage goods, for example, as well as a general understanding of the relevance of their role in maintaining the supply chain as a whole. This qualification will give them the skills and confidence to handle a range of management tasks – such as planning, allocating and monitoring work, identifying and working with talents and strengths, or creating, supporting and motivating their team.

What’s included?
As part of the Modern Apprenticeship, all learners undertake a relevant SVQ (certificated by SQA), core skills and any industry specific training required. We provide face-to-face workshops or e-learning modules on the core content including:

• How to manage people’s performance
• How to communicate effectively with stakeholders
• How to respond to problems in logistics
• How to schedule operations to meet customer requirements.

We also use a range of work-based learning and project activities to give learners the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and skills they have learnt in the workshops and achieve their SVQ in a ‘tried and tested’, practical way.

How long will this take to complete?
This qualification takes on average between 9 and 12 months to complete.

What does this cost?
Depending on your circumstances, this qualification may be fully funded by Skills Development Scotland, regardless of your age, so may not cost you or your employer anything.
